The Broncos have played three games (2-1) so far in the season also defeating Lincoln University and falling to Wingate University.
Head Coach Richard Hayes had a moment to sit down with Assistant Athletic Director Adrian Ferguson, to talk about what it will take to make sure the team is as prepared as can be following the passing of Hurricane Florence during a Pigskin Press talk interview.
Coach Hayes says that releasing the players for flood evacuation was difficult. “They were gone for two weeks, we couldn’t have practice. It’s been really tough on us.” But Coach Hayes knew that Chowan University would show no mercy to the fact that the Broncos have been on an unexpected break, so he spoke with them and encouraged them to not use being unable to practice as an excuse.
Going into the game, the Hawks were the highest scoring offense in the league. However, Coach Hayes was confident they had what it takes on offense and the in backfield to win and continue their to quest to the championship. He remained optimistic through the unexpected contingencies and believes, “As long as we continue to win games, we’re going to be in the championship.”
Brandon Smith, sophomore wide receiver added a 64-yard catch and touchdown against Lincoln University spoke about what he feels will be a challenge against Chowan University during a last practice before traveling Friday afternoon. “A challenge against Chowan will be reading the defense for how they move and picking out their weaknesses,” Smith said. He adds that they have been hard at practice honing in on ways to better themselves, and they hope to bring home a victory after a loss to Wingate.
