Voice’s Take on NFL Mock Draft
posted by Trever Lloyd | March 26, 2024 | In SportsWith the NFL draft and mock drafts flying everywhere, we at The Voice want to get in on the fun and give you who we think we will be drafted where in this upcoming draft. This week we will go through picks 1-7.
- Chicago Bears: QB Caleb Williams, University of Southern California: As much as recent Bears QB Justin Fields has improved since his rookie year, the Bears cannot pass up the chance to get younger cheaper and maybe a little better at the QB position. Add to the fact that we have seen clubs moving off young QB talent earlier such as Josh Rosen in Arizona and the 2021 QB class, Williams simply can’t be passed on at the moment, especially when he has been dubbed a generational talent.
- Washington Commanders: QB Drake Maye, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill: Washington brought in Dan Quinn to be the team’s new head coach. With a new head coach, they need to find a new quarterback, especially in the highly competitive NFC East. Washington has not had stable quarterback play since the days of Kirk Cousins. Maye can give Washington that plus more as he is probably the safest quarterback pick in this draft. While Sam Howell played decently for them, he was never looked at as the answer in DC. Maye’s accuracy and football IQ is just what the team needs. He can sit for a year behind Howell and develop and become the long-term starter in the capital.
- New England Patriots: QB Jayden Daniels, Louisiana State University: New England is in desperate need of a signal caller as they begin the post-Bill Belichick era in Foxboro. The team recently traded away starting QB Mac Jones. Daniels’s athleticism and arm strength will be a major upgrade over Jones and the spark this offense desperately needs.
- Arizona Cardinals: WR Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State University: Kyler Murray needs weapons to throw to, simple as that. So why don’t you get the best weapon on the draft board? This Cardinals team was the definition of scrappy overachievers last year. We have seen what Murray has been like when he has a solidified number one receiver on his team. Harrison who has been dubbed a generational talent can come in and immediately provide impact to a team that needs a little more talent before it’s ready to seriously compete in the crowded NFC.
- Los Angeles Chargers: WR Malik Nabers, Louisiana State University: With the departure of both of their starting wide receivers from last year in Mike Williams in free agency and Kennan Allen traded to the Bears, additionally last year’s first-round pass catcher Quentin Johnston is not flashing as often as LA would want, Nabers has got to be the pick here. He’s a smooth route runner with reliable hands that can make things easier on young stud QB Justin Herbert.
- New York Giants: TE Brock Bowser, University of Georgia: the Giants have had very little consistent production from their skill positions. With the two best receivers off the board, I see them getting Danny Dimes. A reliable pass catcher in Bowser can be a safety blanket and be a factor in the run game with his blocking ability. Along with this draft being very stacked at receiver, the Giants can pick up Bowser and then get somebody else to play outside the numbers on day two.
- Tennessee Titans: OT Joe Alt, University of Notre Dame: since the Titans decided to go out and get Calvin Ridley in free agency and DeAndre Hopkins is still under contract, receiver is not the glaring need it was last year so whoever the Titans trout out at the foreseeable future at quarterback will be thankful for this pick to say the least. Alt is considered one of the best tackles out of this year’s draft and the Titans need to figure out how to either protect Will Levis or the future quarterback that comes after him.
