COVID College Sucks!
posted by Victoria Walker | August 28, 2020 | In OpinionWe have all been there walking to class when suddenly you realize that you left your mask or, even worse, you remembered the mask and forgot your keycard or textbook. With rising cases appearing on campus, you can’t help but wonder if the stress of our Corona University is actually worth it.
So why does COVID College suck?
For one, the cafe is no longer a place to have a good sit down with your friends, even if they refuse to eat the food. The grill no longer stays open late, and let’s be honest, we are now realizing we were a part of those late-night hour crowds in search of food.
Let us not forget the mask! If walking across campus was not your jam to begin with, it surely isn’t now. If hiking the campus terrain, trying not to breathe hard was one of your only concerns last year, try coming into a class from walking across campus and praying no one can hear the heavy breathing coming from behind your mask as you awkwardly try to find a seat that is six feet away from another person!
Let’s not even talk about the online class embarrassments, such as forgetting you’re unmuted and your mom comes in to ask the most embarrassing question she manages to find.
College COVID sucks because we have gone from coming back to our Bronco Home, living our best lives to shuffling very fast to class back to our dorms hoping we didn’t expose ourselves to COVID-19. We have gone from texting and snapping on our phones to anxiously checking the COVID-19 numbers on the school website every chance we get. We have gone from forgetting assignments to forgetting if we are in zoom or face-to-face classes. Most importantly we have gone from socializing with one another to texting every moment of the day.
With cancelled events and games, there really isn’t much time left anymore when we are not students. Without even realizing it, COVID College has turned us into little robots repeating the same things: grab your mask, go to class, eat food, and repeat.
Let us not forget all the countless times we have nearly jumped out of our seat because someone near us has coughed.
As if that isn’t bad enough, not only has our normal campus lives been affected but the voices we use on campus. By now, we should have prepared a campus movement or march for Black Lives Matter and our sisters and brothers whom we are loosing daily to police brutality. But with the wave that COVID-19 has brought on campus, sharing a post seems like the most we can do right now.
While COVID College could be worse, and the guidelines are for our protection. we still can’t help but to have our complaints and think of campus before the whole pandemic.
