On September 15, a National Security Agency (NSA) workshop was held on the 2nd floor of the Charles W. Chesnutt Library on Fayetteville State University’s campus. The workshop was open to all students, emphasizing participation from students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The two NSA representatives gave an informative presentation of all the opportunities available to undergraduate students at the agency, from internships to career opportunities. In addition, students could receive advice on careers specific to their majors. Still, they were encouraged to apply to the many open positions, no matter their major.
Two sessions occurred, one at 11:00 a.m. and one at 1:30 p.m. The representatives spoke about the agency’s various opportunities for college and high school students.
The workshop ended with remarks from Dr. Quienton L. Nichols, the Associate Dean and Associate Professor for the School of Social Work in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He invited the NSA representatives to the seminar and was adamant about students taking advantage of the opportunities presented.
“A lot of times our students are graduating with undergrad degrees making $20-25k. This opportunity is a guaranteed $50k starting off,” he said in support of this opportunity.
Dr. Nichols is passionate about showing students of all departments that the faculty cares about their future. “We plan on doing this every semester and partnering with other colleges within the university.”
Dr. Nichols wants FSU students to attain high-paying jobs in their interest fields with no strings attached. “The opportunity is true. It’s real. It’s not just something hit-and-miss. This was specific to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences because the liberal arts are often left out of opportunities like this.”
The workshop is only one of the various efforts made by university faculty and administrators to provide internships and career opportunities to students. “We as a faculty and administrators plan to walk with every student through the process,” he said
“Call me, email me, Teams me; we can make it happen together. FSU proud, Go Broncos!”
