FSU Global Awareness Day

FSU upheld an annual tradition in March that’s grown more and more successful over the years—Global Awareness Day! Students, faculty, staff, and visitors gathered in the Rudolph Jones Student Center (RJSC) for a morning of entertainment, cultural enlightenment, acceptance of diversity, and of course food. This was the first year the event was held in the RJSC and the new venue definitely added to the overall success of this year’s Global Awareness Day.

There were so many places represented at the event, such as Ireland, Africa, India, and many more. There was also China, who has been a repeated participant in the event. The students at China display this year were Lucy Saiheng, Zhaoxu Liu, Jin Xin Ma, and Xuan Wang. The ladies did well in every aspect of the representation of their country. The passion they had for their native land was evident throughout the entire event—especially during their entertainment portion.

Zhaoxu Liu, Jin Xin Ma, and Xuan Wang displayed pure elegance while doing their group dance routine. It was very tasteful and well-choreographed. To finish things off Lucy came forth to share with the audience a heartfelt song that is near and dear to her. It was amazing to see it happen!

Lucy and her group are International Scholars at FSU and they have noticed lots of advances in the event over the past year. She stated that with the event being held in the Lilly Gym, last year, they ran into problems with the sound and other media. “With the new venue there came a better presentation of the media,” says Lucy about this year’s Global Awareness Day. “[FSU] has been really supportive of the international students. This year the international students have been a lot more active than last year. It is important to make FSU more diverse because it can grow in that way. I wish the FSU students would support and communicate more with the international students, so that we can all exchange our ideas and cultures,” says Lucy, “this way we can explore our diversity and international concept.”

If one thing is for sure, it’s that the coordinators of the event pulled off an amazing and most impressive feat with this year’s Global Awareness Day. Things like this are important for us as not only students, faculty, and staff, but as people with intentions of accomplishing things in a global society. We have to make sure that we are taking advantage of these outlets because if not they will be no longer. Be great Broncos and continue to thrive!
