FSU Men’s Basketball Advance to the CIAA Semis En Route Of Bowie State
posted by Zaire Jones | March 4, 2024 | In SportsThe Fayetteville State University men’s basketball team was on a mission to start off the CIAA Tournament. The Broncos defeated Bowie State University 77-53 to punch their ticket to the next round of the tournament.
The men held a 17-12 overall record heading into this CIAA Tournament. The Broncos would start off this game real hot from the 3-point shooting 83% in the first half. The Broncos would finish the quarter shooting 57% from the floor to finish off the half.
On the defensive end, the Broncos would hold Bowie State to only 40% from the field. Bowie State only made two 3-pointers in the first half. The well-rounded first half would leave the Broncos with a nice 37-25 lead.
In the second half, the Broncos picked up where they left off on offense. FSU was shooting nearly 60% and made three 3-pointers. The Broncos would, however, get themselves in foul trouble, allowing Bowie State to go to the line 15 times. Bowie State was not able to get anything going on offense to spark a comeback, though. Similar to the first half, Bowie only shot 40% in the second half with only two 3-pointers made.
Tariell Fletcher (24), Kaleb Coleman (21) and Caleb Simmons(15) were the leading scorers for the Broncos in this decisive win, sending them to the semi-finals.
The Men will now face Virginia Union in the Semifinals of the CIAA as their quest for a Championship continues.
