FSU NAACP Helps the Community
posted by Suryah Ethridge | November 27, 2023 | In NewsA few members of the NAACP chapter at Fayetteville State University participated in a community service event at the Salvation Army. Students traveled downtown to serve at the soup kitchen that is a part of the Salvation Army. The community service committee of the NAACP decided they would help out their community by helping make plates for those who wanted a warm meal.
The student volunteers were able to package over 90 meals for those in need. They also wiped down tables, put away dishes and helped stack the plates together to make it easier to hand out. Students were also told to make sure to sign everyone in who gets a plate.
Students were greeted with a bright smile from one of the directors who was pleased to see students wanted to volunteer to help out their community. There were a total of five students who worked hard on packing delicious meals for the less fortunate. The students had fun, engaging conversations with the some of the Salvation Army’s directors. While volunteering, the students helped educate the directors of who the NAACP is and what they do for their community on and off campus.
Volunteers also helped with serving refreshments, they greeted people with a smile and the students were more than happy to serve their community. In total, the student volunteers stayed for over two hours and helped the directors complete a lot of errands.
