NBA All Star Weekend Preview
posted by Zaire Jones | February 20, 2024 | In News, SportsThe NBA’s Winter Classic of the NBA All-Star is this weekend, and it is filled with a bunch of intriguing events. The All-Star festivities will be in Indianapolis, Indiana, home of the Indiana Pacers.
To start the weekend off will be the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game featuring stars such as football players C.J. Stroud and Micah Parsons, former NBA player Metta World Peace, singer Jennifer Hudson, and YouTubers Tristan Jass and Kai Cenat. The Rookies and Sophomores will take center stage with big names such as Chet Holmgren from the Thunder, Paolo Banchero from the Magic, and Victor Wembenyama from the Spurs.
All-Star Saturday Night will open with the Skills Challenge with Team Pacers (Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner, Bennedict Mathurin) Against Team Top Picks (Anthony Edwards, Banchero, Wembanyama) and Team All-Stars (Scottie Barnes, Tyrese Maxey, Trae Young).
The 3-Point Shooting Contest is one of the best events of the weekend. Damian Lillard will try to defend his 3-point crown against teammate Malik Beasley, Hawks’ Young, Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Brunson from the Knicks, Halliburton for Indy, and other contestants. Speaking of threes, the best shooter in the world Stephen Curry will take on one of the best shooters in the WNBA Sabrina Ionescu.
The last event of All-Star Saturday Night will be the Dunk Contest as Mac McClung from the Magic G-league affiliate will defend his slam dunk crown against Celtics’ Jaylen Brown, Knicks’ Jacob Toppin, and Miami’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. The Dunk has lost some of its edge in past years so hopefully, this year can revive it back to the glory days of the contest.
Lastly, to close out the weekend, the 73rd annual All-Star game. This year’s game will be different as the Eastern Conference vs West Conference is back after being away for 7 years. The best and biggest stars in the basketball world will attempt to show out and gain bragging rights for their respective conference. The team captain for the West will be 20-time All-Star Lebron James. The captain for the East will be seven-time All-Star, Giannis Antetokounmpo. They are just two of many great players with Kevin Durant, Curry, Jayson Tatum, Halliburton, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic also showcased to close out this jam-packed weekend.
