New Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) Fleischer HBCU Scholars Program
posted by Dominque Elliot | December 5, 2018 | In NewsAccording to the FSU website, Fayetteville State University was selected for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) Fleischer HBCU Scholars Program. Only two other universities, Texas Southern University, and Virginia State University, were selected for the pilot program.
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund was provided because of $1.8 million grant award from Strada Education Network. The Flesicher Program will be used to create an “early talent program that identifies high-achieving high school students, equips them to make informed college and career choices through professional and leadership development activities, and positions them for successful careers with employers,” according to a FSU press release.
“We see this groundbreaking program as a true capacity-building opportunity for Fayetteville State University,” Dr. Harry L. Williams, TMCF president & CEO said in the press release. “The TMCF Fleischer HBCU Scholars Program will provide the pilot schools with tools and technology to bolster recruitment efforts and hopefully achieve the same level of success as the original Fleischer program.”
Mr. Morton Fleischer, Fleischer Scholars Program founder, also said in the press release: “When my wife and I created the Fleischer Program in 2009 to help qualified students from economically fragile communities, we had no idea how successful it would become. Seeing our program expand into HBCUs through this investment from Strada to TMCF will no doubt create a multiplier effect where these scholars transform into business leaders making a significant impact in our communities.”
“I believe it’s so awesome how the Thurgood Marshall College Fund is taking future leaders and developing them to become young professionals.” Hassaanah Kersey, a Thurgood Marshall Fellow and SGA Senator stated. ”As a TMCF myself, I believe it is essential that youth get exposed to opportunities like this so that they will be more prepared for life after secondary education and even after graduating from college.”
