SAC Helps Students to De-stress During COVID-19
posted by Shania Ingram | September 18, 2020 | In NewsStressful: A common adjective used by many to describe the college experience.
While levels of stress may vary among students due to factors such as relationships, financial aid or workload, the reality is that the COVID-19 pandemic has also been a stressor for many.
In response to this crisis, individuals have adapted their own mechanisms of coping, but the Student Activities Council (SAC) has reassured their fellow students that they are not alone in this.
On September 16, members of SAC gathered for an event they called “De-stress with SAC,” which was conducted in the free speech zone just in front of the student center. With a slated time from noon to 3 p.m., the focus of the event was to hand out “de-stress bags” containing several items such as snacks, wristbands, energy drinks and masks to those passing by the student engagement booth.
“We are out here to spread some cheer and give some gifts to everyone,” said Alexis Barber, the business manager for SAC. “With all this social distancing that has been going on, we just hope to have some fun.”
This organization feels it is their duty to keep students as engaged as much as possible by promoting happiness and health for both the body and mind. With emotional and physical health as a priority, they required that students maintain wearing a face mask before collecting their gift bags, and to also make use of all the items they received in the bags.
Even though the pandemic has somehow affected the planning and execution of several campus events, SAC is determined to let their presence be felt throughout the rest of this semester.
“We have several ways of working around things, especially now that we are also virtual,” said Kenyon Butler, a SAC member.
With their efforts, students can be reminded that Broncos are in this together!
