Becoming a Quaran-QUEEN: Checking In With Broncos During COVID-19
posted by Dominque Elliott | April 24, 2020 | In NewsFayetteville State University students have been quarantined for a few weeks now. We’ve been limited in the places we can go, shacked up with family, and trying to adapt with our teachers and their newfound dependence on Zoom.
Because of this, it’s probably a good time to do a Bronco check-in! How exactly are our fellow Broncos doing during this abnormal time period?
“I’m looking forward to this being over,” Brittany Doss, a senior psychology major, joked. “To be honest, I’m still trying to learn something, and I’m just trying to get it together.”
Hassannah Kersey, a senior business administration major, is further exploring her hobbies.
“I’ve been getting fit using the Nike Run Club app, and the Map my Ride app. I’ve learned some new at-home workouts as well.” Still, she’s not too accommodated to quarantine. “But I’m definitely looking forward to this being over, so I can return to the gym.”
“Quarantine has shown me that I truly do enjoy being alone. It showed me how relaxing it is to just do nothing.” Kevonda Tillman, a freshman biology major, reflected on her experience. “However, I am looking forward to getting out of the house and hanging out with my friends. I’m also looking forward to going back to school because of all the freedom I have.”
Tatyanna Montgomery, another freshman biology major, shared how quarantine impacted her spiritual growth. “Quarantine taught me that with prayer and people who love you, you can get through anything. Even with everything going on I still have my peace of mind and people who love and care for me.” She expressed. “This has taught me to slow down and think about what really is happening around me.”
“Acceptance internally and externally is the hardest step when adjusting. A lot of people are judging themselves and others during quarantine,” stated Jemiah Webb, a junior business administration major. “People are realizing their individual potential and boundaries needed to survive quarantine. It’s a beautiful hot mess.” She added humorously.
“I have been coming out of my shell and being unapologetically me more so now than ever,” Webb acknowledged about herself. “I am the only person in control of my day.” She joyously stated: “I make the best of it and love myself through it. Quarantine has forced me to be my own version of a quaran-QUEEN.”
Ashton Brice, a junior English major, spoke from an enlightening perspective: “This quarantine has definitely let me know the true meaning of thankfulness. I think everyone, especially myself, has taken everything that we have become so used to doing—like going to the mall, the movies, hanging out, etc., for granted. We have to seize the day every day because it can all be changed in the blink of an eye. Take life for what it is, and remain positive at all times. People are so busy focusing on the death of the COVID-19 pandemic and not speaking of the recoveries. I think it is essential to look at everything from a ‘glass half full’ perspective in order to be the catalyst in making everything a little happier not only for ourselves but for everyone.”
The Broncos are still alive and well and still bucking! Hopefully, quarantine will end soon, but on the bright side, the Broncos have decided to take this experience as a time to teach and invest in the beauty of themselves and the world around them.
