Opinion: All About the Blue FSU Homecoming Review 2023
posted by Nicholas Robinson-Carter | October 23, 2023 | In News, OpinionHomecoming Countdown: Foam Party.
This event was a little chaotic. First, when I looked at the flyer on the Student Activities Committee page, it did not register to me that it was going to be a foam party with actual foam.
When I arrived that night, there was a lot of people waiting in line at the College of Business and Economics Building to enter. My thought was: why didn’t they host it in the Rudolph Jones Student Center Amphitheatre as in recent years past? Secondly, considering everyone was going to attend this event, the event needed to begin a little earlier or figure out a way of crowd control to handle the bigger crowd?
To be honest, a better venue would help or a simple solution that would not have the crowd waiting in line, especially when the temperature almost drops to 50 degrees.
I personally did not get in until 12:45 a.m., and the police department basically told everybody that the event was going to be over at 1 a.m., and had to turn people away. This meant when we counted down to Homecoming at 12 a.m. that I was still in line, and it was about to be over. This made me feel awkward coming into something that had already started since 11 p.m., but I tried to make the most of it as well as those that made it in after me.
I hope that next time, and it is still the same feedback year-in and year-out from the students, that they get a better sense of how many people came to countdown. Also, I feel like maybe there should be a rotation every 20 min so that everyone included can get in and get out safely.
Midnight Breakfast
The event was pretty entertaining. At first, we were waiting for the performance from Imagine Circus. Of course, everyone got hyped with good music and food provided.
The act soon came, and the audience was in awe as the performer used a hula hoopon fire to make it as ring of fire effect.
Overall, it was blast and not mundane at all.
Denim Day Party
I must say this one was an outstanding event.
The set-up was nice even though the D.J. did not show up, but we made the most out of it with speakers vibing the music with food.
Everyone in their denim attire hit it big. This really brought back the nostalgic ‘90s to early 2000s feel.
I personally loved the 360 photo shoot, and it was my first time trying that.
All in all, Homecoming Week was awesome, and I am so glad I got to attend these events.
