The FSU Community Comes Together for The Very Vocal Votechella
posted by Breyonna Hardy | March 22, 2022 | In Arts and Culture, NewsThe community of FSU came together for the return of Votechella right here at Fayetteville State University.
FSU students, faculty, staff, alumni, elected officials, and community members gathered together to advocate for voting.
The event occurred on March 18 in the Rudolph Jones Student Center.
The Bronco-wide event included participation from organizations such as the NAACP of Fayetteville, FSU NAACP, Hope Mills Prime Movers, and the North Carolina Board of Elections Officials.
Vanessa Daniels, chairman of Hope Mills Prime Movers, has been a driving force in getting people in the Cumberland County to vote and making sure that their voice and vote matters. Daniels is a big advocate for uplifting communities from Fayetteville to Hope Mills.
“I am here to bring some noise to the streets about community service, about building up our community,” Daniels stated. “I am so appreciative of not only being an alumna, but also to represent the Bronco name.”
The event was designed to teach college students how to vote, give community members knowledge about voting, and most of all, give the community the confidence to vote.
Amanda Williams, founder of Votechella, is a major advocate for voting rights and encouraging the youth to go to polls and vote because their vote is significant to officials and the community.
“We were really pleased tonight about the success of the event because the students were involved,” Williams said. “My advice for anyone before they vote is to go the North Carolina Board of Elections website because any voter’s information can be looked up. Look your candidates up and see how they stand on the issue.”
Primary voting in NC is on May 17. Early voting begins on April 28 at designated locations. Learn more about how to vote on the North Carolina Board of Elections website: www.ncsbe.gov.
