On November 6, Fayetteville State University’s Brothers of the Mighty Pi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. held the Miss Phi Beta Sigma pageant.
The pageant occurred in the Rudolph Jones Student Center Room 242, and tickets were $10. Doors opened at 6 p.m., but the show started after 7 p.m. The Miss Phi Beta Sigma pageant is a scholarship pageant awarded to three woman that hold positions on the royal court for Phi Beta Sigma. The theme of this event was “Under the Sea.”
There were five contestants running for Miss Phi Beta Sigma: Alize Hamilton, Tierney Huff, Cassney Vick, Brooklyn Dowe, and Iman Muhammad.
The event started off with the interview category by the president of the chapter, Shawn McNeil and the three judges. After interviewing all five ladies, it was time for the dance number section where all five of them wore silver outfits.
The next category was talent, and this contest allowed the ladies to demonstrate their individual skills—from singing to poetry, and even a special dance routine—all in the hopes of appealing to the judges.
In the between the contest, sophomore arts and music education major, Avanti Akpan, sang an original song.
The pageant continued with the swimsuit category as the ladies were judged on the latest fashion. The final category before announcing the winner was the evening gown.
During this portion, each lady walked across the stage with brothers from Phi Beta Sigma as their escorts as a short bio was read, including information on their plans after graduating from FSU.
Finally, it was time to announce the three winners: the winner for Miss Blue & White was Iman Muhammad; Alize Hamilton won Miss 1914; and the 2022 Miss Phi Beta Sigma winner was Cassney Vick. Congratulations to all the ladies that participated in the pageant.
