Williams and Chiefs Head To The Super Bowl
posted by Trever Lloyd | February 14, 2023 | In News, SportsThe Kansas City Chiefs are going back to the Super Bowl after beating their AFC rivals the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in a nail-biting AFC Champions game. For the third time in the last four years the team is going back to play for the Lombardi Trophy, taking former FSU Bronco Joshua Williams with them.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may not have been his spectacular self, but still put up a solid performance going 29 for 43 for 328 passing yards and two touchdowns. With multiple receivers injured, Mahomes put the offense on his back for the final drive scrambling for a first down drew a penalty that put the Chiefs in position for a Harrison Butner game-winning field goal from 45 yards out.
On the defensive side, you have to give the Chiefs credit for holding the Bengals to 20 points. This was Cincinnati’s third lowest scoring game of this season.
Kansas City’s front seven led by defensive tackle Chris Jones held the Bengals run game in check, giving up only 71 rush yards on 17 rush attempts. They harassed Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow the entire night, coming away with five sacks with Jones contributing with 2 sacks of his own. The constant pressure forced Burrows to throw two interceptions, one in the second quarter. His second interception came late in the game when former FSU Bronco and Kansas City rookie cornerback Williams had caught a deflected pass.
The Kansas City Chiefs won last Sunday, 38-35.
