Women’s Basketball: Southern Division Champions
posted by Amber Gladden | November 9, 2018 | In News, SportsOur very own women’s basketball team of Fayetteville State University has gained the name “Queens of the South” for their successful season of 2017-2018. The women’s basketball team beat every team on their side of the conference play and ruled the court like the queens they are.
This season they will be looking to defend their throne and to go even further than that.
The women’s basketball team is coached by head coach, Coach Serena King-Coleman, and Assistant Coaches Tyreece Brown and Alishia Mosley.
Last season the ladies had a rough start but made a big turn-around going undefeated most of second semester. Being the champions in the south gave them a “by-week,” so they did not have to play the first game at CIAA.
Unfortunately, the ladies took a tough loss. However, that did not take away from their big accomplishments on becoming Queens of the South.
This season the FSU women’s basketball team has gained a total of five Division 1 transfers that they are looking forward to help the team out this year. These players will be bringing experience as well as maturity to the team.
They also picked up three Juco All-American players to fill in the missing pieces to their new team.
“We plan to win championships we don’t plan to just compete, we are playing to win,” said Coach Brown.
The ladies are currently preparing for the season every morning at 5:00 a.m. by running, lifting weights, and doing drills.
Junior player Corinthia Lindsay said she feels that the team is going to be very successful and win a ring this year.
Fayetteville State’s women’s basketball team is also very active at serving their community by serving at the day care on Fayetteville State’s campus as well as Seabrook.
These ladies will have their first game on Nov. 9 in Capel Arena against Bloomsburg at 5:30 p.m.
