Broncos Trample Falcons at Homecoming
posted by Bria Battle | October 13, 2017 | In News, SportsThe Fayetteville State Broncos triumph over the Saint Augustine’s Falcons 34-31 after game winning field goal kicked by David Lamb. The celebratory win was significant to Bronco fans since this was the homecoming game during the sesquicentennial year.
Saint Augustine’s (3-5 overall, 3-2 in CIAA, 2-1 in the division) threw 17 completed passes, 28 attempts and one interception. After the Falcons scoring in the first quarter with a 26-yard run, the Broncos answered with two rushing touchdowns from RBs Donshel Jetton (Mooresville, NC)
and Stevie Green (Washington, NC). Green, the leading rusher in the game, had 176 yards and two touchdowns.
The Broncos continued to improve during the 2nd quarter of the game with a five yard run by QB Richard Latimer (Charlotte, NC) when 8:56 was left on the clock. Yet, in the third and fourth quarters, the Falcons fought to retrieve the game with consistent scoring. This helped the Falcons tie the game 31-31.
It was down to six seconds in the game when Lamb kicked the game winning field goal that broke the tie. Lamb was in a similar situation during the Shaw game two weeks prior to homecoming.
Next week, FSU will head to Salisbury, NC to play in the conference matchup against the Livingstone Blue Bears. This will be Livingstone’s homecoming as they stand defeated 0-8 overall.
