Death of Andre Emmett
posted by Joshua Dungee | October 9, 2019 | In SportsAndre Emmett, a former NBA player, died at 37 after being shot in Dallas on September 23.
A video released by the Dallas police from Emmett’s doorbell surveillance shows him sitting in the driver’s side of his SUV with the door open as a few men dressed in dark colors approach his vehicle. In the video, it looks like one man strikes Emmett and then extends his arm as if he is pointing a gun at him. Emmett then sticks his hand up to keep the man from hitting him again. The group of men allow Emmett to get out of the car, and they all walk to the side of the car. Emmett begins to run down the street, out of the camera view, but the man with the gun follows him and is seen shooting at Emmett.
Fox4 News, the local Dallas affiliate, reported that a witness saw the two get into a Chrysler 300 and leave the scene. No arrests have been made at this time, and police are still trying to identify any persons of interest.
Emmett was drafted out of college to the Seattle Supersonics as the No. 35 pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. Shortly after, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. He played with the Grizzlies for eight games until August 3, 2005 when he was traded to Miami Heat. Unfortunately, Emmett was waived by the Miami Heat on October 31, 2005. He then began playing for the D-League and was drafted by a few teams for their summer leagues.
On February 14, 2012, Emmett re-joined the NBA after signing a 10day contract with the New Jersey Nets. He then ended his career during the 2015-2016 basketball season after being with fifth overall pick in the 2015 KBL foreigner draft.
