FSU Welcomes Desi Banks to Seabrook; Hilarity Ensues
posted by Ford Bowles | October 19, 2021 | In Arts and CultureOn Oct. 12, comedians Desi Banks and Henry Welch hit the stage in Seabrook Auditorium for the Homecoming Comedy Show, hosted by social media sketch artist HeyTonyTV.
The night’s festivities kicked off with Rocky Mount-raised and William Peace graduate, HeyTonyTV doing his best ‘school administrator’ impression to get the crowd fired up and ready for the night’s comedy acts.
He challenged students in the crowd to get into the school spirit by giving the audience their best neighs, evoking HeyTony’s fictional high school, Quarterbrick High (they bark to show pride in being Bulldogs), as we are Broncos at Fayetteville State University.
Following up HeyTonyTV was Henry Welch, a veteran of the stand-up circuit with over a decade and a half of experience. He touched on a variety of topics, from different cities in the South and their unique qualities, specifically his thoughts on his hometown, Birmingham, to shouting out the various Greek Life organizations on campus and joking about the stereotypes of each one.
The last act of the night was none other than Desi Banks. The high-profile comedian boasts a combined presence of over 10 million followers on social media platforms. Banks kept the laughs rolling in during the entirety of his set, making light of drunken acts with friends, club shenanigans, relationship issues, romantic situations, and much more.
He finished his set by staging a small ‘Fay State Talent Show,’ challenging students to come up on stage and showcase their talents and abilities for a chance to win a cash prize.
The various student talents included singing, freestyle rapping, crunking, and beatboxing. A late arrival to the show gave a moving spoken word performance, taking the top prize in the act.
Banks signed off by filming the student body for his social media platforms.
