El Club Hispano de FSU celebra el Mes de la Herencia Hispana
posted by Anautica Wilson | September 18, 2019 | In La VozEl 15 de septiembre es el comienzo de una celebración reconocida a nivel nacional que rinde homenaje a la cultura hispana y todas las contribuciones que los miembros de las comunidades hispanoamericanas en todo el país han hecho para enriquecer la cultura estadounidense en general. El Mes de la Herencia Hispana dura un mes completo que culmina el 15 de octubre. El Club Hispano, una organización estudiantil de Fayetteville State University, organizará una serie de eventos para celebrar la comunidad de estudiantes hispanos en el campus. El martes 17 de septiembre, el club realizará una presentación de la película Selena, una película biográfica sobre la famosa cantante e intérprete de música chicana, Selena Quintanilla. En vida, Selena alcanzó la fama en el mundo de la música Tex-Mex, poniendo enfoque público en toda una cultura que es parte integral de la cultura en las comunidades de una gran porción del suroeste de los Estados Unidos, incluyendo Texas. Desafortunadamente, la vida de Selena se vio cortada en la cima de su carrera. El jueves 19 de septiembre, después de la última presentación de la película, habrá un grupo de discusión que abordará el tema de la identidad y lo que significa ser hispanoamericano. Este evento tendrá lugar en Taylor Science 102.
El martes 24 de septiembre en Taylor Science 102, el Club Hispano tendrá el segundo concurso anual de pintura. Los temas de este año son: (1) Su interpretación de la cultura hispana o (2) ¿En quién piensa cuando piensa en la cultura hispana? Habrá premios para los tres primeros lugares ganadores y se otorgarán en la Fiesta del 15 de octubre. ¡Y, para cerrar el mes, el Club Hispano llevará a cabo su tan esperada Fiesta Cultural que fue un gran éxito el año pasado! Habrá música, juegos, comida, exhibiciones de artefactos y más. ¡Así que prepárate y ven a celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Hispana al verdadero estilo de FSU!
FSU Hispanic Club Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15th is the beginning of a nationally recognized celebration that pays tribute to Hispanic culture and all of the contributions that members of the Hispanic American communities nationwide have made to enrich American culture as a whole. Hispanic Heritage Month lasts an entire month culminating on October 15th. The Hispanic Club, a student organization at Fayetteville State University will host series of events to celebrate the Hispanic community of students on campus. On Tuesday, September 17th the club will hold a movie viewing featuring Selena, a biopic about celebrated chicana singer and performer Selena Quintanilla. In life, Selena rose to fame in the world of Tex-Mex music, shining a light on an entire culture that permeates large portions of the American Southwest including Texas. Unfortunately, Selena’s life was cut short at the peak of her career. On Thursday, September 19th,
after the final installment of the movie, there will be a discussion group that will tackle the topic of identity and what it means to be a Hispanic-American. This event will take place in Taylor Science 102.
On Tuesday, September 24th in Taylor Science 102, the Hispanic Club will have the second annual painting contest. The themes this year are: (1) Your interpretation of Hispanic culture or (2) Who do you think of when you think of Hispanic Culture? There will be prizes for the top three winners that will be awarded at the Fiesta on October 15th. And, in closing the month, the Hispanic Club will hold its much anticipated Cultural Fiesta that was a major success last year! There will be music, games, food, artifact exhibits, and more. So gear up and come on out to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in true FSU style!
