iINSPIRE: A Hidden Gem on Campus
posted by Wil Brown | March 28, 2019 | In Arts and Culture, NewsOn March 2, the BRONCO-iRADIO.COM staff presented their sixth Annual iINSPIRE Showcase Concert. The event took place here on campus at the Seabrook Auditorium. The festival was made to showcase local talent and provide inspiration for guests. It featured North Carolina artists who performed songs and spoken word and danced for the audience. There were also several vendors in attendance. Though sparsely attended by students, the event featured many inspiring acts.
The event started out with a dialogue and introduction by BRONCO-iRADIO.com program director Brian Barber and station advisor Ray Thomas. The two spent a few minutes interacting with the crowd as the first act prepared to enter the stage.
The first performance of the night was a very inspirational performance by the husband and wife duo, David and Tiffany Spencer. The duo created a church-like atmosphere in the auditorium as they sung a few selections for the crowd.
The next notable performance to come to the stage was by Poetic Voices. The performance featured spoken word by Suave the Poet along with a dancer who accompanied him and performed in the background as he began his second poem.
Suave the Poet said of the points he tries to get across in his performances are “to inspire, to mentor, to get my opinion out…to learn from my mistakes.”
Some of the other performers included singer/songwriter Goddess Cre, spoken word artist Will and Dhakeria Little, and poet Shauntel Gaines.
Steve Dalton and Laviticus Charlotte, an act that is not new to performing here on campus, closed the concert with a variety of amazing gospel songs that had everyone on their feet and singing along to the music.
Stacie Simfukwe, who was a vendor, was able to watch the event had a positive experience during the evening and really enjoyed the performances. Her favorite performances of the evening were Steve Dalton and Laviticus Charlotte and Goddess Cre. Ms. Simfukwe would like to see more people in attendance at next year’s event.
“I would love to see the event promoted more. … It’s like a hidden gem here in Fayetteville,” Ms. Simfukwe said.
Performer Suave The Poet also commented on the attendance of the event: “The support of the students seems to lack,” when comparing the event to those at other schools where he has performed.
Program director Brian Barber feels the timing of the concert played a role in the lack of attendance at the event and that more promotion will be done next time.
In regard to putting events together, Barber said, “It’s really a true test of how we can adapt to everything we have going on.” Along with the event’s audience, Barber was pleased with how the event went saying: “If I could bottle the feeling of how everything went, I would bottle it and sell it.”
As someone who has attended a couple of the BRONCO-iRADIO.COM concerts, I can honestly say there is always great talent on display. Make sure you support and attend their upcoming concerts and events. You won’t be disappointed!
