Two Gun-Related Incidents in the Same Week at FSU
posted by Joshua Dungee, Tyjahn Stokes | April 9, 2021 | In NewsTwo incidents involving guns on or near campus happened within a week of each other.
In one of the incidents, shots were fired near campus on March 25 which awoke many students residing on campus, according to student sources. Along with the gun shots, students reported loud knocks on dorm doors and that the blue campus call boxes were announcing: “This is the police.”
According to a statement released after the incident by the Fayetteville State University Department of Police and Public Safety (FSUPD): “No suspect(s) were located, and it is believed the shots were fired off campus.” The FSUPD is still assisting with the investigation of the incident.
Sophomore Timothy Crumel was awoken by the FSUPD campus call box and alarmed when he heard police bang on the door.
“Well to be honest, I was asleep. I didn’t know what was going on, but a lot of craziness goes on in Fayetteville. From break-ins to shootings, this is like an everyday thing. But I wasn’t worried to be honest. I asked my friend what was going on, and she told me the breakdown of what happened before word got around campus or through emails,” said Crumel.
On March 29, a suspect was seen walking the campus while carrying a firearm. According to a statement released by FSUPD, the weapon was never used in any way towards the reporting witness. A silver Dodge Charger was seen on scene and was located by the police after the incident.
The FSUPD stated that there was “no active shooter, no shots fired, no robbery and no reported injury.” A witness described the suspect as a Black male with dreadlocks and approximately 5’4 in height.
