Jim Harbaugh Is The New Coach Of The L.A. Chargers
posted by Trever Lloyd | February 13, 2024 | In SportsThe L.A. Chargers have found their future coach. On January 24, it was reported that the team has agreed to terms with Jim Harbaugh to fill the head coaching vacancy that was created once the organization fired Brandon Staley. This hiring marks the return of Coach Harbaugh to the NFL, after a seven-year gap spent being the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines at the University of Michigan.
Before that, Harbaugh was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-2014. During his tenure, he reached the NFC Championship game three years in a row from 2011-2013, including a Super Bowl appearance in 2012. This hiring decision is probably not only the best hiring of a coach this offseason but also the most shocking.
Many people speculated whether Coach Harbaugh would even be interested in making a return to the league or stay at Michigan, considering the Wolverines are coming off a roller coaster of a season where Harbaugh was suspended for multiple NCAA violations, but the season ended in a national championship victory.
Harbaugh will have his work cut out for him, as the Chargers have gained the reputation of being consistently inconsistent. However the team is full of talent that Harbaugh could really build around. On the offensive side of the ball, they have Justin Herbert, one of the best young quarterbacks in the game today. On the other side of the ball, the Chargers have playmakers in a top five safety in Derwin James Jr., a top ten edge rusher in Joey Bosa along with a young stud at corner with Asante Samuel Jr. They just have to put it together. It might be an uphill battle, but if anybody can turn this team into a Super Bowl contender, it is Harbaugh.
