Making A Major Decision

Students were encouraged to attend and explore the various majors, minors, and concentrations FSU has to offer. Students could also declare their major at the event.

FSU has the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and Economics, and School of Education. The departments offer 43 different majors and minors students can pursue. A Graduate Studies curriculum is also available in some areas.

There were more than 10 major tables set up with the hopes of catching the eyes of the students. Pre-Law, English, Communications, Theatre, Psychology, Science, Technology, Math (STEM), Education, Criminal Justice, and Business were some of the numerous majors that were in attendance. Each department provided brochures on the majors they administer and the jobs that can be obtained within that major.

They also had students who were currently majoring in those fields to provide feedback about experiences within that particular field, the kind of classes offered, and the opportunities available.

Many professors attended, providing insight to prospective students. They explained what the courses were like, provided facts on the income potential from the major, and handed out an interest sheet for students who wanted more information and emails pertaining to that major.

Career Services, which is located on the second floor of the School of Business and Economics (SBE) building, was in attendance, providing information on the multiple services they provide to students and alumni. These services include assistance with building resumes, finding jobs on and off campus within their major, and the different mock job interviews available to students.

There are hopes that this event guided students in the right direction and gave them perspective on what majors are available on campus and what choosing that major may mean for their future.
