Cumberland County Lifts Mask Mandate
posted by Karizma Howard | February 22, 2022 | In NewsBeginning February 20, Cumberland County’s indoor mask mandate will be lifted for public places. According to Up and Coming Weekly, the county’s decision came after the Board of Education voted to lift their mask mandate.
All Cumberland County government buildings will still require masks indoors as well as the county courthouse and Department of Public Health. Masks will also be required for public transportation and enclosed vehicles.
Cumberland County’s required indoor mask decision began August 27, 2021, when the new COVID-19 variant, Delta, started to increase. Though the number of positive cases has declined from 37.8 percent to 25.5 between January and February, the county’s public health director, Dr. Jennifer Green, told WRAL: “We are still recommending that everyone in public indoor settings wear a mask… if you’re over the age of two, regardless of your vaccination status.”
The city of Fayetteville previously rescinded its mask mandate November 1, 2021, according to the city’s website. Fayetteville State University’s mask mandate is still in effect. According to FSU’s website: “all employees, students, and spectators are required to wear facial coverings, whether vaccinated or not, inside all campus buildings and facilities in shared public spaces, including, but not limited to elevators, hallways, and restrooms.”
It is encouraged that everyone continues to take precautions and make the best decisions concerning their health during this pandemic.
