Mavs Extend Winning Streak to 7 over Rival Suns
posted by Zaire Jones | February 27, 2024 | In SportsThe 12-game NBA slate on Feb. 22 was filled with solid matchups, but the Suns versus the Mavericks was the one to watch. The Mavs would wind up victorious over their rivals Phoenix Suns 123-113.
The Mavericks are rolling right now as one of the best teams in the NBA. They are currently tied with the Boston Celtics, for most consecutive wins with seven.
The game started off fast for the Phoenix Suns. Suns guards Grayson Allen and Devin Booker, who were significant for Phoenix in scoring in the first quarter. The Mavericks would storm back later in the first quarter thanks to Kyrie Irving.
The story remained the same as the Suns would start off hot, and then the Mavs would take over. In this case, it was one of the leading MVP candidates Luka Doncic.
Doncic had a pretty pedestrian first quarter but would heat up in the second. As the current leader in scoring right now, Doncic put his team in prime position to take the lead at halftime.
Dallas took the momentum into the third quarter and started pulling away as other players started getting the shine. The Suns tried to stay in it as their stars Kevin Durant and Booker tried to reel the Suns back in.
It was too late by the end of the fourth as Doncic was doing it all and finished the game with a near triple-double. His final stat line was 41 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists. His second-in-command, Irving, finished with 29 points 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Suns duo of Kevin Durant and Booker were a little bit less impressive. Durant finished with 23 as he couldn’t help Booker’s 35-point game.
In a tough Western Conference, the win for Dallas now has them in a tie with Phoenix with the sixth seed as with under 30 games remaining of the NBA regular season.
