North Carolina has begun its annual modification water treatment process. This a one-month time period in which the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources requires that all cities that put a temporary cease to the use of ammonia in its drinking water.
Officials say that this short-term adjustment to the water treatment process it will not affect the safety or the quality of the water, nor will it affect the disinfectant process.
The indicated temporary change could cause the apparent taste of chlorine or discolored water. This adjustment in the water process will run its course for Fayetteville from March 1 – April 1.
Ammonia will be once more added to the water treatment disinfection process starting back on April 1, PWC officials say.
