Voting 101: A Bronco’s Guide 2023

Voting is the right of every citizen, but there are some requirements to do so.
Firstly, you need to register if you haven’t already. In NC, the voter registration deadline is 25 days before Election Day! For local municipal elections on Nov. 7, you need to register by Oct. 13. You can register online, in person at the DMV, or by mail.

PLEASE KNOW; In April of 2023 North Carolina Supreme Court reinstated the Voter ID law. Therefore, photo ID proof will be required! Your ID must be unexpired OR expired for less than a year. It can only be expired if it expired after a 65th birthday.
IDs Accepted:
- NC driver license
- NC state ID card
- US passport or passport card
- NC voter ID issued by County Board of Elections
- NC student ID card approved the Board of Elections. FSU ID is approved. (CLICK FOR LIST)
- Military ID issued by US government
- Veterans card
- Tribal enrollment card
- Out-Of-State driver license or ID card, BUT you must have registered to vote in NC!
Now technically, all voters can vote with or without a photo ID. However, you have two ways you can vote without an ID present.
- You fill out a provisional ballot and fill out an ID exemption form, or
- Again, fill out a provisional ballot and bring your ID by the day before county canvass.
You must request a ballot to submit an absentee ballot (voting by mail).
IMPORTANT DATES:
- Early voting at one-stop polling places: Until Oct. 7
- Election Day for the Primary: Oct. 10
- General Election: Nov. 7
