Women With A Cause Rally in Raleigh
posted by Hanine Mohamed | February 24, 2017 | In NewsOn January 21, thousands of people came out to downtown Raleigh to march for the rights of women, immigrants, minorities, and the Muslim. Some protesters also want to repeal the HB2 law, the “bathroom bill,” which is state law that states that transgender people must use the bathroom that corresponds on their birth certificate.
This march wasn’t just about women. There were over 10,000 people who attended the march, and this included women, men, and many children. A hashtag that was used was #NoisyMajority.
Many women are in fear of losing their rights such as abortion, or losing organizations that could make a difference with their health such as Planned Parenthood. Many immigrants, and children of immigrants are in fear of what could possibly happen to them, or to their parents such as being deported, and then separated from their families, or put into jail. African Americans and Muslims are in fear of the lack of safety that has been declining for years. The LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) community are in fear of a bill that makes them uncomfortable, and feel threatened to be their selves.
The majority of the signs were about women’s reproductive rights, and organs, as well as quotes from Donald Trump. Besides the waves of signs, you would see an ocean of pink kitty ears that were worn by everyone that were called Pussyhats. It was a small sign to let everyone that without being vocal, they are politically active.
