FSU Alum Publishes Book about Anxiety, Sparks Mental Health Talks in Households

Mental health issues have become a huge topic of discussion in households due to a global pandemic and increased usage of social media and incidents of bullying. I Can Breathe Again, is a chapter book that teaches everyone about anxiety, social stigma, overcoming, the power of community and support, and much more.
I Can Breathe Again, tells the story of B.J., a young African American teenager who takes on the journey of battling insecurities, bullying, and anxiety. B.J. begins to uncover the root of his issues with the help from his family, friends, and even a mental health professional. This entertaining story is sure to teach everyone ways of how to navigate through abnormalities through B.J.’s adventure!
I Can Breathe Again, is an easy read chapter book for school grade children 6 and up. I Can Breathe Again, is a must read for all generations. This book sets you up for a big inhale in the beginning and allows you to slowly release small breaths through each page turn until you reach the end, breathing normally again. McLean uses the character, B.J., who is struggling with anxiety, to convey how pivotal it is to embrace our mental health. He addresses stigmas, fears, hardships, and more while showing us how to overcome each one. B.J. is engulfed with bravery and strength. He allows us to see that inherited stereotypes are worth acknowledging, too.
I implore everyone to grab a copy and learn a thing or two. Though you may not have a personal struggle with anxiety, being educated can help someone who does.

McLean is a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is an alumnus of Fayetteville State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. McLean is a proud supporter of his community and is involved in numerous volunteer and charitable organizations.
