Mid Season NFL Awards Predictions
posted by Trevor Lloyd | November 21, 2023 | In SportsAs we get closer to the end of the year, a single team holding up the Lombardi trophy the second week of February is imminent. But The Voice decided to make some predictions about individual awards handed out at the end of the season.
Offensive Rookie of the Year: C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans quarterback
At this point, this prediction is looking more and more like a guaranteed winner. Stroud’s play has given Houston fans hope. Some have made the argument that he should’ve gone first in the draft instead of second. Stroud has the Texans setting at a 4-4 record, second in the AFC South and has tossed 14 touchdowns to a single interception.
Offensive Player of the Year: Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins wide receiver
Hill has been the ultimate human cheat code. As the focal point of the Dolphins explosive offense, Cheetah has been borderline unstoppable and the bane of defensive coordinators existence all season. Hill is currently leading the league in touchdown catches with 8 on the year and yardage (1069). Right now, it’s very likely that if Hill continues his dominance for the rest of the year he could also be the next triple crown king as he’s second in catches.
Defensive Rookie of the Year: Devon Witherspoon, Seattle Seahawks cornerback
This prediction is probably the one that is most up in the air. As of right now, it’s a two-man race between Witherspoon and the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Carter. However, I give it to Witherspoon over Carter because of how special the Illinois product has been. With a swagger and energy unmatched, the first-year cornerback has been all over the field, covering receivers from the slot and outside. He has nine passes defended through the first half of the year. Not only has his coverage skills been unmatched, he hasn’t been scared to help and tackle, having 39 to his name along with two sacks. Witherspoon really has the potential to be one of the primer cornerbacks in the league at the rate he is going.
Defensive Player of the Year: T.J. Watts, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker
Watts looks to be on his way to his second defensive player of the year award. Currently he is second in the league in sacks with 9.5. The reason that I am giving Watts the nod over other candidates such as Myles Garrett, Micah Parson and Nick Bosa, is the amount that Watts has to go through. If he is not at the top of his game, the Steelers are not winning. All the games that the organization has won, Watts has registered a sack.
