“I’ll ‘Beer’ Right Back”: The District House of Taps
posted by Karizma Howard | March 29, 2022 | In Arts and Culture, NewsDistrict House of Taps is your destination for drinks. Located off Fort Bragg Road, the establishment has a self-pour taproom with over 40 types of craft beer you can try. Along with beer, the Tap House also has an assortment of wines and ciders.
Visiting the Tap House for the first time was an experience. With a nighttime view, the house was beautifully lit from top to bottom creating an ambiance of warmth. Entering the establishment brought back memories of hanging in the common room of my college dorm. Not knowing at the time that Tuesday was Trivia Night, I walked into a boisterous and vibrant atmosphere.
One side of the house was a snug and welcoming lounge area that provided games for entertainment amongst friends. The other side of the house was the dining area with high tables from front to back.
After touring, the lack of diversity was evident. Other than the DJ, my company and I were the only people of color in the entire place. Once the DJ spotted us, we locked eyes, he nodded, and proceeded to change the music from punk rock and pop to ‘90s R&B and hip hop.
The menu had a plethora of choices. I decided what better way to enjoy the night than to try multiple things other than wings.
First on the list were the starters. The Cajun Chicken Egg Roll was filled with peppers, spicy chicken, and thoroughly melted cheese all encompassed in a flawlessly crusted roll. The chicken was just the right ‘spiced’ to be enjoyable with a tiny kick. Next, I tried The Fried Green Tomato Stack. (Don’t worry guys, I had help with the food tasting). The tomatoes were drizzled with a balsamic sauce with pimento cheese wedged between the slices. The combination was interesting and possibly an item I would try again.
After the appetizers, I tried the Off the Chain Dog, which is a bratwurst served in a hoagie roll with a side of fried pickles. The bratwurst was not a memorable choice, but the pickles were satisfying, nonetheless. The favorite of the night were the pulled pork sliders served with a side of golden fries fried to the perfect crunch.
The food in totality was eye-catching, but not gratifying. All the meals had nice presentations but lacked some elements of flavor.
The surprising taproom discovery and festivities of the night were diverting, which made the experience rewarding as a whole.
What was meant to be a wing and movie night, turned out to be a night of enjoyment. To my brew lovers and those looking for something to do on a Tuesday, visit District House of Taps. The music, great company, and drink selections will leave you saying, “I’ll ‘beer’ right back.”
